Rural Improvement for Schooling and Employment

Nebraska State Probation RISEPurpose

The Nebraska Administrative Office of Probation's, Rural Improvement for Schooling and Employment (RISE) Program will have 13 AmeriCorps Members facilitate a skill-building curriculum to adjudicated youth with an identified high-risk criminogenic factor relating to education in the Nebraska probation system in Otoe, Cass, Lancaster, Douglas, Platte, Dakota, Dodge, Madison, Buffalo, Hall, Adams, and Dawson counties in Nebraska. AmeriCorps Members will be responsible for demonstrating increased attendance, decreased disciplinary referrals, and decreased arrests for adjudicated youth. AmeriCorps members will teach juvenile probationers the skills needed through nine group sessions, focusing on topics such as: test taking strategies, positive study habits, motivation, other educational skills, and employment and post-high school information. AmeriCorps RISE Specialists collaborate with volunteers and stakeholders in their communities to provide support and services to help at-risk youth find a better path away from the justice system and in-turn create safer communities.
