The Santee Sioux Nation AmeriCorps Program improves the health and wellness of the community.   Members help meet critical needs in education, the environment, public safety, social services, and other human needs.

Dakota Tiwahe Service Unit (DTSU), Santee
AmeriCorps members assist with front desk operations, maintaining the Watani (incentive store), assisting case managers with client services, preparing meals for community events, maintaining a clean and sanitized work area, and providing childcare for various events.

Dakota Tiwahe Service Unit (DTSU) – Horse Program, Santee
AmeriCorps members assist our equine specialist by providing services such as horsemanship lessons, riding lessons, cultural rides, equine assisted learning and, equine assisted psychotherapy.

Dakota Tiwahe Service Unit (DTSU)/Domestic Violence Shelter
AmeriCorps members support the domestic violence shelter by assisting with front office operations, assisting case managers with filing and providing transportation for clients. Our members assist with providing cooking and support duties for weekly woman’s group meetings, and assist with inventory and sorting clothing donations.

Healthy Start, Santee
AmeriCorps members provide assistance to the front desk operations, they help organize the Healthy Start incentive store, help with surveys, trainings and classes held by Healthy Start; and help with different community events hosted by Healthy Start.

Nebraska Indian Community College - KZYK Santee 88.9 FM Radio Station, Santee
AmeriCorps members assist the radio broadcasters by offering educational, health and cultural awareness, Dakota language, native music as well as music of yesterday and today. 

Nebraska Indian Community College, Santee
AmeriCorps members assist patrons with checking in and checking out books, locating books, magazines, and periodicals.  Assist with shelving books, magazines, and newspapers.  Help patrons with computer and printer issues.  They assist with updating new book information into the computer system and attaching spine and barcode labels to books. 

Warrior Lodge, Santee
AmeriCorps members assist the youth tech staff by providing counseling, coaching, case management, fund raising, and providing a safe, clean and sanitized environment.  They facilitate and coordinate all after-school activities for the community youth in a secure environment.

Santee Sioux Wellness Center, Santee
AmeriCorps members assist the wellness tech’s by improving the health status of all members of the community through motivation and exercise.   They assist with office management, water fitness, and training on equipment.
