Disability Preparedness Program

The Nebraska Volunteer Service Commission has been named the Lead Agency in Nebraska for disaster preparedness and response activities for individuals with disabilities by the NEMA.
In order to fulfill this role, the Commission has implemented a Disability Preparedness Program to promote collaboration and networking among individuals, communities and organizations and provide disability preparedness resources to Nebraska.
The Disability Preparedness Program works in coordination with the State Citizen Corps Program, a volunteer-based community preparedness initiative that is also administered by the Nebraska Volunteer Service Commission. This collaboration promotes further collaborative efforts in communities throughout Nebraska, sharing knowledge, resources and guidance related to disability preparedness throughout the state.
To facilitate collaboration among Citizen Corps Councils and leaders within Nebraska communities, the Commission has created a resource guide Working with the Disability Community: A Citizen Corps Toolkit for Collaboration.
